Re: Jens Munk rose

I may be rude and I am not disrespecting your skills but did you loose your seeds because of damp? If I did not treat with No Damp I would loose everything- literally. And it is now off the market. Johannes

Re: I'm new here, so I'd like to say hi!

I assume you have learned of the two camps and the traitors. Diploid and tetraploid sometimes they cross mostly they do not. I breed diploids. They are tough. (Rugosa are one ) tetra like English and Hybrid Teas are weak. This is only my opinion. The latter is lovely with more colour and shape but w...

Re: Jens Munk rose

Hello you two, I love my Jens Munk. I would not live without it. This year I crossed it with Hazeldean two nice fat hips. I did the same cross last year but only got two seedlings so that is why I repeated it. The plant has never had disease and the flowers tend to drop clean for the most part. The ...

There is also a species Rosa beggeriana (I know you have heard about it) white flowered, red stemmed.

Re: Polstjarnan (expanded)

Well I had some success with one of my cross of (HansaxAmes#5). The strong seedling is covered with flowers that are med-pink and single, they also carry the scent of multiflora. By fall I was collecting 20 seeds per hip. I saved the best 150 and will germinate those. I can only hope that I can reco...

Re: Rugosa Offspring and Variations

One thing I notice is nobody is selecting for red stems like Therese Bugnet. this is my main goal brighten up a drab rugosa. It is hard but I can now get red stems with white flowers but there is much more work to be done. The white that I have is the earliest posted note read leaves etc

Re: The Feasibility Study on the Prediction of Ploidy Levels

Is there any indication which roses were used? I use pollen size with rugosa/woodsii. I am curious as to diversity. No chance of a copy of this paper eh? Johannes

Re: Yellow roses

Quote. "I find that Hazeldean is the only rose that holds its deep yellow pigment, but that's not transmitted
to it's offspring."

Do you remember what the other parents were? Did you have time to do sibling crosses or back ones?
Thanks Johannes.

Re: Rosa rugosa 'Salmon Pink'?

Iritani just sent me seed! The price? About 300$ for a translator and shipping and a half year of my life My Japanese family recommend it. It did make it easier that all protocol was followed. He did not have seed and nether did the nursery. He had to make abit of a search to find a grower. I will g...

Re: Floating seeds

Iris pseudacorus, also a edge of the water plant, exhibits similar structure. I am happy that I did not take the advice of an old gent who was adamant that all fertile rose seeds sink. Thanks Henry.

Re: Spinosissima Hybrids

Dane, yes altaica does rebloom. I wish I could tell you about the European forms reblooming but in my extremely cold climate they do not do that well. I find that even 'Suzanne' dies back.
