Popping in because I’m super interested in the breeding of variegated roses, looking to obtain one eventually for breeding purposes but I’ve found nothing so far unfortunately

We’ve had multiple freeze and thaws 4-5c quite a few times in central WA, lower than that too, I was below freezing last night, should I just plant the seeds removed from hips that were left in them outside? Or should I refrigerate it as well to stratify in there on top of it?

Silly question but a question is a question so, if rose hips were left over winter with viable seeds in them outside and harvested around now, do you think they would’ve started the stratification process while in hip? Or would that inhibit the process entirely?

I've planted it in the field and we'll see how it grows. The problem is that winter dieback may kill the variegated branch.

I love the look of the Fracis Meilland sport! With the edges being more consistently white, I wonder if it is a periclinal chimera with just the outermost layer of the growing point being mutated to not produce chlorophyll. I suspect mutated chloroplasts may be the reason for the attached variegate...

Hi! Wanted to ask how long some of you generally stratify your seeds! I’m fairly small scale so I generally use a fridge but wanted to know how many weeks you left them before pulling.
